COSWIN: Meters

Some jobs are triggered by a meter reaching a certain level, kilometers travelled by trucks, for instance, or tons of ice cream produced. Other jobs require either a meter and or a calendar as a job trigger.

COSWIN therefore allows an easy way to structure meters into a family and give the values of the coefficients. It also allows you to simulate the effects of meter updates. Value check is run by COSWIN to verify the coherence of meter structures and any potential errors are displayed.

What happens to metering when an equipment is removed? As background read “Repairing Equipment

① When an item of equipment, also declared as a repairable is removed, in this case S-1 ② It is received into the Stock and at this point COSWIN ③ will write into the Equipment record the exit value of the meter for that particular repairable item ④ COSWIN also writes into the stock record of the repairable the value at which it came in at, that is 23000 ⑤ The Stock item that is going to replace S-1, namely S-2 is now issued from stock and ⑥ replaces the old S-1. COSWIN now writes the cumulative value of the item onto the equipment record, that is 17000.

All the above takes place with a work order, refer to chapter on repairing equipment.

Some other features of meters:
They can be “virtual”, that is equipment can be updated on its meter value without having first to create a meter. For instance, in the illustration above, Eqp 2-C need not have a meter
As well as cumulative meters can be incremental, that is only the last value is taken to allow forecasted consumption
