Cross-border collaboration at its best: Siveco China team on-site at Taiba 2 combined cycle power plant in Saudi Arabia
In mid-April, during the regional ceasefire, the Siveco China project team visited the Taiba 2 Combined Cycle Power Plant, located approximately 100 km southeast of Madinah, one of Islam’s holiest cities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The team traveled smoothly from Jeddah to Madinah aboard the Chinese-built Haramain High-Speed Railway before continuing to the construction site.
The 1,980 MW combined-cycle power plant is owned by Wahat Al Gharb Energy Company, the project company established for the Taiba 2 Independent Power Plant (IPP). Shareholders of Wahat Al Gharb Energy Company are: Aljomaih Energy & Water Company (lead developer), Ajlan & Bros Holding Group, Buhur for Investment Company, EDF Group. The plant is being constructed by a Chinese EPC consortium led by China Energy International Group. The project is advancing steadily toward commercial operation in 2026–2027.
On site, the Siveco China team successfully completed deployment of the Smart O&M system environment and held productive face-to-face discussions with the owner’s highly professional and international O&M team. Topics included the system’s Functional Design Specifications (FDS) and future usage based on the Core Model. Bringing together multiple stakeholders and nationalities, this project is exactly where Siveco China thrives: bridging gaps between construction and operations, as well as between the EPC contractor and the owner-operator. International cooperation at its best!

Next steps include system configuration, training, and go-live support for Taiba 2 and its twin sister project, Qassim 2, where Siveco China is delivering the same scope of work.
