Half a year of adventures in China and on the Belt & Road

Dear Reader,

Welcome to the “Smart O&M” newsletter for the second quarter of 2018! For readers who prefer to read on mobile, all articles will also be published on our WeChat account (“sivecochina”).

The first half of the year was full of adventures for us at Siveco!

As the Chinese Government pursues the deployment of its 13th Five Year Plan (2016-2020), incentivizing the development of sustainable infrastructures, Siveco is experiencing strong demand for Asset Management consulting services and Smart O&M solutions from Chinese Environmental & Energy utilities. In particular, major contracts were signed with PPP distributed energy projects. During the same period, Siveco continued to develop its Belt & Road business, mostly notably working with Korean EPC companies building power plants in Africa: four major deals were signed in the first half of the year for turnkey CMMS and DMS projects. Industrial clients still represent a significant share of our business: impacted by stricter regulatory enforcement and increasing competitive pressure, manufacturing companies are starting to pay more attention to optimizing maintenance. The 4.0 or smart manufacturing trend contributes positively, although it also creates confusion especially in multinationals with top-down global initiatives, whereas Chinese companies may be more agile, adopting smart solutions faster.

In the terms of our internal development, Siveco China successfully passed the ISO 9001:2015 certification for the company’s entire scope of business (which includes our R&D center in Shanghai and our maintenance consulting services). Our auditor Bureau Veritas conducted a very comprehensive audit, even spending half-a-day at one of our customers site, Essilor Shanghai. I announced the news during the 2018 World Manufacturing Forum held in Hefei on May 26 and was quoted as follows:

“The successful implementation of Maintenance 4.0, Smart O&M or Asset Management (whatever you may want to call it) is so much more than good software plus good people… There are many good software solutions around, many good people in the market place, yet so many “smart” projects never attain their initial objectives. This has become a major concern for companies contemplating digitization projects in China. Since we launched Siveco China in 2004, our focus has been on building a system. A system to capitalize on our vast accumulated experience helping infrastructure projects and plants optimize their asset management, a system to train and coach our team members, a system to ensure quality, stability, reliability in the services we deliver to our clients. Fifteen years down the line, I think the market recognizes the wisdom of our approach and our results speak for themselves.”

I will take this chance to thank all Siveco team members and our customers, especially the team of Essilor Shanghai who agreed to receive the auditors at their plant. Essilor Shanghai has also just received our “Ten Years Achievement in Maintenance 4.0” award.

Our Reliability article expands on this topic in the form of our feedback from the World Manufacturing Convention, which was held in Hefei at the end of May.

Two customer case studies illustrate excellence in Smart O&M in Chinese infrastructures and multinational manufacturing firms, with Zhongshan Water’s implementation of the bluebee® solution, a great example of forward-thinking municipal utility making use of the latest Smart technologies to ensure water quality and good management practices, and Mane Fragrance & Flavour, a leading multinational ensuring traceability and compliance with Maintenance 4.0

Our Tips & Tricks section features our BIM for Asset Management solution, a concept pioneered by Siveco since 2011 that is finally gaining recognition in the market. Thanks to our integrated approach, both in terms of software and specialized consulting, BIM models used for design and construction can continue their life during the operation & maintenance phase.

That’s a lot to read, but we believe sharing what we do, what our customers do, brings value to everyone and we often receive positive feedback on that! We thank you for your interest! For your convenience, you can always come back to our articles on WeChat or directly on the newsletter.sivecochina.com website. Do not hesitate to share this newsletter with people around you. Thanks!
