10 Years of Maintenance Improvement Case Studies in China

To celebrate our 10th anniversary, our team has prepared a book collecting many of our customer’s success stories of maintenance improvement. The book will contain case studies, most of them already published in this newsletter over the years, each with updated content and latest achievements. Currently under final design, we will officially release it after the Chinese New Year.

In this book you will learn how Fushun Mining Group has implemented a CMMS during the construction of its shale oil processing plant. Siveco’ scope of supplier included CMMS, Document Management System (DMS) and mobile solution for inspection.

You will also learn how several subsidiaries of multinational utility giant GDF Suez have worked with Siveco over the years, leading to deployment of our solutions and services in most of their water and waste treatment sites all over China. The project constitutes the most successful, perhaps the only successful, example of CMMS implementation in the Chinese water industry.

The book also features Kerneos, a manufacturer of aluminate cement. A long-term Siveco China client, Kerneos is well-known in Tianjin, where its main plant is located, for its excellence in the field of maintenance and has been a strong reference for Siveco in this region. Danfoss lab is another client in Tianjin, showing that maintenance improvement applies not only to production facilities but also laboratories. The Siveco project covers multiple labs worldwide, demonstrating our unique capability to deliver global projects from China.

Many Chinese customers stories are recounted in this book, such as that of Dayang Shipyard, where (quoting their equipment director) “powerful reporting and analysis tool helped us overcome the main challenges we were facing” during a period of downturn. Crisis are often the best time to launch a maintenance program, as maintenance is usually under-optimized in China. The experience of Nokia China is telling, with a phased project that achieved 15% downtime reduction and 12% increase in MTBF, well ahead of targets.

Siveco customer stories are rich in real-life ROI. Acome Xintai, a producer of telecom cables, achieved 3 million RMB savings, the direct consequence of 10% breakdown reduction on critical machines. Automotive supplier Brose Wuhan experienced ROI within a year, according to their financial department measures of reductions in energy consumption and downtime thanks to the project. Essilor Shanghai achieved 13% downtime reduction in the first year and a whopping 38% in the second year, with significant cost reductions linked to increased preventive maintenance.

Maintenance improvement service contracts are not forgotten in this book: The story of building up the maintenance organization for Daramic Xiangfan Battery Separator, with a full time Siveco maintenance specialist onsite for a full year. Also, consulting projects conducted for leading chemical producer Arkema in Shanghai, Changshu and Malaysia (not to mention projects with Bostik, another chemical producer recently acquired by Arkema, for which Siveco has delivered projects in Guangzhou and Changshu).

In real estate projects, Siveco assisted the French Embassy in Beijing in defining its maintenance strategy, selecting FM service suppliers (at startup and again 3 years later) and is still providing support to all parties involved today. Carrefour China won the 2013 CHaINA supply chain award for its “Risk Prevention Management System” project with Siveco. Changcheng Property Group saved 30 million RMB a year thanks to efficiency improvements.

Unlike other CMMS suppliers or maintenance consultants in China, Siveco has proven capacity to deliver results to multisite organizations and projects outside of China. Our book features many such clients, including Arkema, Danfoss, SITA, Essilor but also Chinese construction companies with projects in Indonesia and Malaysia. To date, we have conducted projects in the following countries: Algeria, Brunei, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Sudan, Taiwan.

Many more of our customers are unfortunately not covered in this book; some of them prefer to keep details confidential, for some others we simply did not have enough space or time. We will of course continue to publish customer stories on our website and more generally to share experience of real-life ROI from maintenance projects in China and from China. Customer stories are the proof of our success and we would like to thank all our clients for that!

We will inform all our readers when the book is finally published!
