Experience sharing with industry parks and associations

In this month’s Partner article, we feature a very different type of Siveco partner. Over the years, Siveco China has been known to very actively promote maintenance best practices and knowledge sharing in various forums. Our senior managers have spoken at numerous industry conferences, usually not to make a sales pitch, but instead to share case studies and to initiate discussions with the audience. Our General Manager more particularly has made such presentations at many events, such as the annual Process Engineering Conference (see here from feedback from the 2013 session). Most recently he also spoke in a series of Facility Management events.

In addition to conferences, we have been known to arrange work groups or smaller seminars, in different formats:

  -  Our own small events, usually in the form of a “Roadshow” with industry specific sessions in various cities.
  -  Small sharing sessions between customers, with or without external guests, allowing more in-depth exchanges between trusted colleagues. Some of those sessions were featured in our newsletter article: Training sessions and interfaces

On April 9, Siveco joined a workshop in the city of Zhongshan (Guangdong province) on the topic of maintenance. The session, around a nice dinner, was organized by members of the local chapter of the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in China, as part of their Production Workgroup. Two keynote speakers presented their own experience: M. Damien Derlot, Industrial Manager at SNOP (tier-1 automotive supplier, www.snop.eu) and M. Vincent Gelly, Operation Director at Forsee Power (batteries, www.forseepower.fr). The seminar gave industrial managers in the area the opportunity to share hands-on feedback on how to improve maintenance, while Siveco also shared some of its own experience.

Topics covered included:

  -  Challenges met to develop a real maintenance strategy
  -  How to implement preventive maintenance
  -  How to professionalize your maintenance practice
  -  How to capitalize the highly multi-disciplinary know-how related to maintenance
  -  How to ensure repairs are not quick-fixes
  -  How to organize your spare parts strategy

One notable quote from the session (by a plant manager): “If I had to do it all over again from the initial plant setup, I would not change much, except that I would have definitely start working on maintenance improvement by setting up a system right from the beginning 3 years ago”, which totally reflects Siveco’s experience for over 10 years in China.

This workgroup was the latest in a long series. Over the past 10 years, Siveco has organized workgroups not only with the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in China (where we coordinate the regular Construction & Maintenance Workgroup), but also with the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China, the Swedish Chamber of Commerce, the German Chamber of Commerce, with business parks such as Ningbo Free Trade Zone, the Quality Club and many more. Such events are usually more successful in “second tier” cities and some of the best events, such as the latest one in Zhongshan, were held in such cities as Suzhou, Changzhou, Wuhan, Chengdu, Chongqing, Ningbo.

Siveco will continue to run and join sharing sessions in various regions of China! We strongly encourage local chambers, business associations or industry parks to contact us if you are interested in running such a session with us!
