Seamless integration between COSWIN and the ABB 800xA platform
Through a relationship dating back from the early 1990s, Siveco and ABB have developed an advanced out-of-the-box integration package, bringing unique benefits to plant operators.
Unlike traditional interfaces, which feature a transfer of data (for example an alarm) to trigger work orders in the CMMS, the COSWIN-800xA integration toolkit ensures a tight HMI integration between the two subsystems, bringing value-added to both operation and maintenance users: operators can view CMMS data and access its functionalities from the DCS HMI. This seemingly simple feature provides unheard-of support for work productivity improvement, fault diagnosis, safety management and decision-making.
The example of alarm handling is perhaps the most compelling, as traditional interfaces often offer no practical application other than replacing the phone, while polluting the CMMS with false or repeated alarms… The Siveco approach, on the contrary, allows the operator to diagnose a problem, by accessing all related maintenance information directly from the system they are familiar with. After reviewing similar problems, the maintenance history of the equipment concerned, related documentation, etc., he can then decide a course of action, which may or may not involve transferring the work order to maintenance. In addition to HMI integration, the standard toolkit also features data exchange through OPC (alarms, measurements and meters), synchronization of equipment structures and integrated user authentication.
Depending on whether the project is an add-on to an existing DCS or a joint implementation of both systems, different implementation strategies would be recommended. For more information on Siveco’s approach to integrating with supervision systems, please see:
