A few stories from the early years of Siveco China
During the Beijing Winter Olympics, our Managing Director Bruno Lhopiteau started to share old stories on social media, stories that younger Siveco China team members and newer clients had never heard before. As these posts received many likes and positive comments on WeChat and LinkedIn, our newsletter team has compiled some of them in this article (text slightly modified from Bruno’s posts).
The industrial scenery of the Beijing Olympics’ Big Air Shougang venue astounded many viewers unfamiliar with the former Shougang Capital Steel plant. To think that the Siveco China team was there in 2005 for a Maintenance consulting assignment, aimed to help define maintenance preparation steps as part of this huge industrial relocation program in time for the 2008 Beijing Olympics! This later led to a condition monitoring project for the new plant (which may shocked those who think that “predictive maintenance” was invented last year!).
In 2006, Siveco China worked with construction leader Bouygues Construction to support the drilling of the 8.9km Chongming island tunnel in Shanghai, which connects Pudong to Changxing island. The two Herrenknecht tunnel-boring machines, each 15.43m in a diameter, 134m in length and weighting 3,250 tonnes had their equipment structure, spare parts and maintenance plans documented in our CMMS Coswin, then in its version 6, for handover to the operation teams.
In 2010, Siveco China conducted maintenance audits for several Shanghai World Expo pavilions (Algerian, Angola, Brazil, Nepal and Spain) in partnership with Shanghai University’s Sino-European School of Technology. This independent analysis of future maintenance needs offered valuable input to help define a possible “second life” of the pavilions (for example conversion to a permanent office building or relocation). Also a great example of academic partnership!
In 2013, as reported in local media, then-mayor of Shanghai Han Zheng, now Vice-Premier of China, visiting our client Carrefour China. The retailer’s CEO and his Risk Prevention team introduced the system on the giant touchscreens they use to run the day-to-day operation of all their stores in the country. This story is told in more details in this month’s editorial.
Thanks to our longevity in the Chinese maintenance market, Siveco China has hundreds of project stories from which we can still learn today. We hope to continue to share within the company and with our customers. Thanks to Bruno for sharing!
