Maintenance for kids
June was a very eventful month for us at Siveco. As usual, some will say! We have signed very exiting deals including yet another multisite automotive account (with leading Italian auto supplier Magneti Marelli) and a flagship oil & gas project with state-owned Fushun Mining Group (the announcement is here). In the latter, we beat several large IT vendors, which proves again that our maintenance-driven approach is correct! Both customers are extremely well-known and successful companies in their respective fields, with very good people and a rather advanced outlook on maintenance, we are sure to learn a lot from those projects, which have both already started.
In the past month, we also joined several industry events, most notably the 7th Annual Process Industry Engineering & Maintenance Congress in Guangzhou. I was invited to chair the event and presented a paper on “Lessons from 15 years of maintenance improvement projects in China”. The congress turned out to be an excellent place to exchange viewpoints with other participants. For those of our readers who haven’t been able to join, we wrote a short event summary here. Other events in June included our partner, giant engineering firm ABB, proudly showcasing blueblee® at the ABB Automation World in Shanghai.
On the R&D front, a lot has been happening in our Shanghai R&D center, which I am not at liberty to disclose until the end of the summer! Our regular readers and some of our existing customers may be able to guess what is going on, others will have to wait and see!
As a result of all this activity, we continue to grow the team and remain on the lookout for qualified and motivated engineers to join us! Feel free to recommend good people (see the career page of our website for current openings)!
As I was writing this editorial, at home in the evening, my elder daughter (8 years old) found one the rugged mobile device we use to run bluebee® and asked what it was… I tried to tell her, but did not know where to start, so I finally let her (and her younger sister, 7) watch the excellent movie our customer Changcheng Property Group has made (if you haven’t see it, the movie is here). They were both very happy to finally understand what their dad was doing for a living (apart from “working with big factories” as I used to tell them)! Just like bluebee® has proven to be a powerful tool to simplify the maintenance improvement process, movies showcasing bluebee® in action can be wonderful education tools – we encourage our customers to make such movies and will try to make a few of our own!
In this month’s newsletter, we are proud to have a case study of Nokia Beijing, a very result-driven company keen on measuring ROI. The reliability article on Lean Manufacturing is a reprint from a piece I previously authored for a local business magazine. This month’s partner article features Japanese engineering service firm Technopro. Finally you will find a selection of our latest news.
Enjoy!
